Question by Just Sellin: Has anybody used liquid lawn aeration?
About 2 months ago I laid a new sod yard. I tilled the entire yard about 6-8 inches deep to loosen the soil to give the new sod roots a good start. Well, the yard isn’t doing so good even after continued watering. I called in a lawn care company and they have treated the lawn with fertilizers and premergers (for the weeds growing between the sod). They recommend lawn aeration and overseeding this fall which is what I plan to do. I have found a few companies that offer a liquid aeration that is supposed to be better that traditional methods such as spike or core aeration. Has anyone had any experience with this type of aeration? Aerify! and LazyMan™ Liquid Soil Aerator are two of the companies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lawn aeration is the secret weapon in making your lawn healthy. Aeration involves making holes in the lawn either by pushing a rod into it or by “coring”, extracting a plug of soil. By aerating your lawn you provide the following benefits to your lawn and its root system: Oxygen gets to the roots and the soil allowing it to “breathe” Organic fertilizers and nutrients get access to the root system Water is able to better soak the soil and reach the root system Helps to break up thatch Tight, compacted soil is loosened up allowing the root system to grow

Question by treehuggersgarden: What’s a good price for lawn aeration/thatching?
I started a lawn service a year or so ago, and am looking into doing aerations and thatchings in the fall. My average lawn size is 6,000 SqFt, and I’ll be renting the machines.

For here (Denver) a normal price for aeration $ 40.00 plus,as for power raking I get “time on job” @ $ 35.00 an hour.
For 6,000 sq ft I would charge somewhere in the vicinity.
1) $ 100.00 (aeration)
2) $ 125.00 (power raking)
3) $ 25.00 a man hour for clean up.IE 3 men @ $ 25.00 X 3 hours = $ 75.00.
Keep in mind I’m supporting a family, paying Lib. Ins. and the awful price of gas.I pay just $ 7,000.00 just to dig dirt and another $ 4,000.00 Lib. Ins. beyond that. These prices are of course passed along to the end user.
There are so many times I get caught in the thought it should only cost this and end up losing money.Remember it’s the end product that counts. If I could have seen the future a few years back I would have doubled my prices then.
To coin a phrase “it is what it is”
Sorry,My Best

A Look at lawn aeration in Core Aeration – Why Aeration Is So Beneficial To Lawns

www.spring-green.com Harold Enger talks about the benefits of core aeration for your home lawn. Core aeration is probably the most beneficial thing you can do for your lawn other than fertilization. A core aerator will pull up plugs of soil and place them back on the grass. It helps compacted soil and to reduce thatch. The aeration process opens up the soil to allow more air, water and nutrients to reach the root level of the grass plants. After an aeration, it’s a great time to overseed your lawn if necessary. The aeration holes allow the seed to fall into the holes and germinate.
