Hi, I was looking through some of my mom’s Better Homes and Gardens cookbooks from the 1950′s. I tried this recipe, and I would like to know what you think. Would you change anything about it? Anything you can think of that might make it better? I liked it, but I still think it could use ‘something else’.

Ham Loaf Line Up
1 Long loaf of french bread, sliced almost to the bottom, at 1 inch intervals.
1 can Prince’s canned ham
1/4 sweet relish, or sweet picalilli
thin slices of swiss cheese, such as Leerdammer.

Mash the ham together with the relish until you have a paste.
Spread inbetween each slice with butter, then spread every other slice with the ham mixture, then place the cheese slices in the empty spaces. Wrap in foil, and bake at 180 for 25 minutes.

This was an American recipe, that called for deviled ham, which I have never seen in the UK, so I used a Prince’s canned ham. What do you think?

Deviled ham has spices in it-dry mustard and pepper,maybe others- you might try adding some herbs/spices that you like with ham.

Question by Anna: Trying to make a pretty cork board?
I have just painted my room Tiffany Blue (and it’s gorgeous btw). I want to buy this comforter set from Bed Bath and Beyond (my mom and I saw it in-store, I really like it):

I have been looking for a nice cork board to tack things up with in my room, but I’ve had no luck finding a pretty one one. I have found a pretty lilac colored frame that goes with the comforter here:

I want to take the frame and make it into a cork board border. Can I take out the glass and put in a piece of cork? Would it be that simple, or do you think I’d need something to back the cork? What type of cork should I use? How thick do you think is good?

Question by Acadia: How can I make my lawn look like the beautiful hidden garden courtyards of the French Quarter in New Orleans?
For the first time in my life, I’m going to live in a REAL house (after living in a trailer for 18 years!) and this house has quite a lot of lawn that I would like to make into a beautiful garden, like the ones you see in New Orleans, hidden by those French-looking black iron fences, with lots of stone and green.

Except…I don’t know where to start! Can anyone provide me with resources for this kind of garden building, or show me pictures of the kind of garden I’m talking about (I’m actually having quite a difficult time finding some)? I would especially love links to websites that sell this type of material.

I would suggest you go to a local nursery and have them come out and see what you have. Certain plants and bushes grow better in certain places like direct or indirect sunlight. They will or should know what you need and where to place everything you want.
